Description
Not only were wind tunnels originally used for testing the aerodynamics of cars, they also provide an incredibly thrilling body flying experience. With wind speeds of 120 mph, the wind tunnel creates the sensation of freefall without the need to nosedive from a plane. Begin with a full safety briefing, before putting on a specialist flight suit and stepping into the tunnel. With an indoor skydiving instructor on hand to offer help and guidance throughout, hover in the air for two exhilarating sessions of body flying. For some lucky participants, the instructor will hop onto the airflow to show off some impressive freestyle aerobatic manoeuvres.
Availability: At least one weekday and one weekend date every month throughout the year. The centres close on Christmas Day but operate on bank holidays. Weather: The tunnel is indoors and isn’t affected by the weather. Duration: Expect to be on-site for around one and a half hours, including a 20 minute safety briefing, kit issue (15 minutes), two 60 second body flying sessions each and a full debrief. Numbers On Day: Training may be shared in a group of up to 12. All flights are held on a one-to-one basis in the wind tunnel with a fully qualified instructor – you won’t jump together, but will watch each other’s flights from the gallery. Spectators: Facilities at Xscape (Milton Keynes) and the Chill Factore (Manchester) are excellent and make for a good family day out. Spectators can watch the action from the free viewing gallery. Dress Code: No jewellery or collared shirts. Please wear tight-fitting lace-up trainers (not boots). If suitable footwear isn’t worn, it is compulsory to hire trainers from the venue. Jumpsuits and other equipment are provided. Lockers £1. Guidelines: Restrictions: Minimum age is four. Under 18’s must be accompanied by an adult. Maximum weight 18 stone. Anyone who’s reasonably fit, can fly. If you’re pregnant, have heart, back or neck problems or have ever dislocated a shoulder, you can’t fly. Other Info:
