Gliding is perhaps the most elegant way that humans can get airborne. It’s a breathtaking way to fly, soaring on the same rising currents of air that the birds use. Your experience includes around an hour in the air over three flights, plus expert instruction. Start with a briefing session, before climbing aboard a dual-controlled glider with your expert instructor. The glider is then towed into the air by a light aircraft and once you’re at a height of around 2,000 ft the rope is released, the aircraft peels away and you’re free to soar lazily in the thermal currents. Enjoy breathtaking views of the countryside below you and the sky around you. And – at the pilot’s discretion – take control of the glider yourself. Unforgettable.
Availability: Weekend dates year round. They fill quickly, so we recommend allowing several weeks advance booking notice, even earlier during summer. Weather: Gliding is weather dependent. It is crucial that you call the venue between 9am and 9.30am for a weather check before setting out. If your flights are cancelled because of the weather, they’ll be re-booked for an alternative date. Duration: The duration of your experience can vary. Please arrive a few minutes early to ensure your flights start promptly. Numbers On Day: Briefings might be shared. The flights are held on a one-to-one basis with the pilot. Spectators: Spectators are welcome, but must follow safety directions whilst on-site. A camera or a pair of binoculars will come in handy. Why not bring a packed lunch, sit and watch for a while? Dress Code: Wear flat-soled shoes and bring a jumper with you in case it gets cold at higher altitudes. Bring gloves in winter and sunblock and a hat in summer. Sunglasses are recommended all year round. Guidelines: The Peterborough And Spalding Gliding Club lies on the A1073 between Crowland and Spalding. Restrictions: Minimum age 16. Maximum height is 6’4”. Maximum weight is 16 stone. You can’t fly if you suffer from epilepsy, fainting or certain other physical or mental disabilities – check when booking. Other Info: The venue is run as a non-profit making club and you may be expected to help others launch and retrieve their gliders while you wait your turn at flying.
