Description

Gliding is a majestic way for people to be airborne. It’s a breathtaking way to fly, soaring on the same rising currents of air that the birds use, with no roaring engine to spoil the peace. Begin the experience with a full flight briefing, before stepping aboard a dual-controlled glider with an experienced pilot. A light aircraft tows the glider into the air and once at the appropriate altitude (approximately 2,000 ft) the rope is released, allowing the glider to gently move in the thermal currents. Take in stunning views of the countryside and during the flight (at the discretion of the pilot), take charge of the controls to take over the piloting duties.

Availability: Weekends throughout the year. We recommend allowing several weeks advance booking notice, even earlier during summer.. Flights are usually less frequent during winter. Weather: Gliding is weather dependent. It is crucial that you call the venue between 9am to 9.30am for a weather check before setting out. If your flight is cancelled due to the weather it will be re-booked for an alternative date or time. Duration: The length of glider flights depends entirely on the prevailing thermals (currents of warmer air that provide the lift). As a guide, your aerotow flight should last for between 12 and 20 minutes. Numbers On Day: Briefings may be shared, the flight will be held on a one-to-one basis with the instructor. Spectators: Spectators are welcome. A camera or a pair of binoculars will come in handy. Dress Code: Wear flat-soled shoes and bring a jumper with you in case it gets cold at higher altitudes. Bring gloves in winter and sunblock and a hat in summer. Sunglasses are recommended all year round. Guidelines: The Peterborough And Spalding Gliding Club lies on the A1073 between Crowland and Spalding. Restrictions: Minimum age 16. Maximum height is 6’4”. Maximum weight is 16 stone. You can’t fly if you suffer from epilepsy, fainting or certain other physical or mental disabilities – check when booking. Other Info: The venue operates as a non-profit-making club and you may be asked to help others launch and retrieve their gliders while you wait your turn to glide.
