Gain an insight into an alternate mode of aerial transport. Begin on firm ground with a full safety briefing and discussion on elementary helicopter flying methods with an expert pilot, before climbing aboard a dual-controlled training helicopter for a thrilling vertical take-off. Once airborne, the fun continues as the pilot illustrates how to move forward, backward, sideways or hover motionless. During the 30 minute session (at the pilot’s discretion), take the reins and become an honorary pilot to experience the buzz of flying a helicopter first-hand.

Availability: Tuesday to Sunday throughout the year, excluding the Christmas period and bank/public holidays. Weekends are particularly busy, please book at least four weeks in advance. Weather: Helicopter flying is weather dependent, mainly due to wind speeds and cloud cover. It is CRUCIAL that you call for a weather check. For morning bookings call the venue the day before. For afternoon/evening bookings call on the day before setting out. Duration: The safety briefing lasts for 15 to 30 minutes. The flight lasts for 30 minutes, engines-on to engines-off. Numbers On Day: Briefings may be shared. The flight is held one a one-to-one basis with the instructor. Spectators: Spectators are welcome to watch you take off and land. A pair of binoculars or a camera will come in handy. Dress Code: Please bear in mind that the cockpit can get quite warm and dress accordingly. Wear flat-soled shoes (not trainers). Sunglasses are recommended all year round. Guidelines: Sywell Aerodrome can be found just off the A43 between Kettering and Northampton and is easily accessible from the M1 and A14. Sywell Aerodrome is well signposted from the A43. For Sloane Helicopters, please enter the aerodrome at the main entrance. Restrictions: Minimum age is 16. Maximum weight is 17 stone (240lbs). Other Info: Flying time can count towards a Private Pilot’s Licence. To qualify for a PPL you need a minimum of 45 hours dual-control flying, of which at least 10 hours must be solo flying. Please take your booking confirmation letter with you on the day.
