Modern meets historic in this exciting flying experience. Climb into a Bell 206L LongRanger helicopter and fly alongside the stunning Spitfire HF Mk.IX – one of the few operational Spitfires left in the world. This model is the last aircraft to be assembled at Filton Aerodrome, has a maximum 1,170 hp V12 Rolls Royce Merlin 70 engine and can reach a top speed of 405 mph. Taking off from the famous Goodwood Aerodrome, soar high into the very skies where the Battle of Britain was proudly fought and won. Once in sight, the choreographed moves of the Spitfire will have you marvelling from your middle seat of the helicopter at the power, manoeuvrability and grace of the iconic warbird. Experience a truly unforgettable piece of aviation history.
Availability: Flights take place approximately one Saturday and one Sunday per month, between May and September. Weather: Flying is a weather dependent activity. If the flight is cancelled because of weather, an alternative date will be rebooked. Duration: Expect to be at the venue for up to half a day. The helicopter flight itself lasts 20 minutes, 15 minutes of which are spent flying alongside a Mark IX Spitfire. Numbers On Day: Share the helicopter with up to five other passengers. Spectators: Whilst no spectators are allowed in the hangar, they are welcome to watch the take-off and landing from the viewing area or the on-site cafe. Dress Code: Dress comfortably with flat-soled shoes. Sunglasses are recommended. Guidelines: Restrictions: Minimum age is five and under 16’s must be accompanied by an adult.
