Recreate the pure pleasure of vintage aviation with a vintage flying experience. After a short pre-flight briefing, don a Biggles-style flying jacket before climbing into the cockpit of a vintage De Havilland Tiger Moth or 1930s Stampe SV4. The Tiger Moth is the quintessential English biplane, with the Stampe being the Belgian equivalent. Feel the rush of the wind from the open cockpit and enjoy spectacular views as the pilot puts the plane through a series of exciting manoeuvres (subject to weather conditions and at the pilot’s discretion). During the flight, take over controls and discover the sensation of flying first-hand. Back on terra firma, some venues even include a flight certificate to take home.
Availability: Selected weekend and weekday dates throughout the main flying season from May to September (March to October at some locations) for Tiger Moth at some venues and all year round at others and for Stampe flights. We recommend booking several weeks in advance. Weather: Flying is weather dependent and it is crucial that you call the weather line on the morning of your flight. These craft are vintage open-cockpit planes and certain weather conditions may result in your flight being rescheduled. Duration: Lasts for around 20 minutes from chocks-off to chocks-on. Please arrive a few minutes before your flight time to be kitted out and briefed. Allow for at least one hour on-site. Numbers On Day: The briefing may be shared, but only you and a qualified pilot will be in the aircraft during the flight. Spectators: Spectators are welcome. Facilities vary depending on the venue. A camera and a pair of binoculars will come in handy. Pets are not permitted at any airfield. Dress Code: As these planes have open cockpits, do wrap up warm. Wear soft-soled shoes. Bring sunglasses and tie back long hair. Flying kit (jacket, headset and helmet) will be provided. Guidelines: You’ll receive further location details when you have booked a date. Restrictions: Min age varies 12 – 18. Max weight 16 – 18 stone. Minimum height 4’10” – 4’11”. If you fit into a standard car seat you should be comfortable in the cockpit. Unsuitable for pregnant women or anyone unable to climb into an open cockpit. Other Info: These vintage aircraft are scrupulously maintained and serviced to ensure your safety.
