Description
Step inside an inflatable six person raft on the mighty River Tryweryn for a white water rafting experience in Wales that will see you challenge the elements as you work the rapids and fly over the water. The guide kits everyone up and brings you all up to speed on white water rafting techniques and instruction to get you on your way. Raft the runs up and down the river (as many times as four goes depending on time), all the time growing in confidence, getting wetter and wetter! The River Tryweryn set in North Wales is graded three on the UK s white water grading system which starts at one (a few splashes) and goes up to six (too rough to offer commercially). So get ready for a white-knuckle ride to guarantee screams of sheer excitement.
Availability: Daily from mid December to end of October, subject to water releases by the local river authority. Dates fill very quickly; book at least six weeks in advance. Weather: Severe adverse weather conditions or local environmental issues can affect water releases and rafting – participants MUST call the venue two days prior to the experience to check weather conditions and the latest water release information. Duration: The experience lasts for around two hours from initial introduction to debrief. Once booked, the time quoted allows for registration, any preparation and is not necessarily the start time of the experience. Numbers On Day: The raft holds up to six people plus a qualified instructor. Spectators: Spectators are welcome to watch from the riverbank. A camera will come in handy. Spectators’ safety remains their own responsibility at all times. There are covered facilities and a cafe, but they might not see all of the action from there. Dress Code: Bring swimwear and a towel. If you own a long-legged wetsuit bring that. Boots, helmets, wetsuits and buoyancy aids are provided. Glasses and contact lenses may be worn at your own risk. Guidelines: From Llangollen follow the A5 to Corwen. Approximately a mile and a half past Corwen, turn left towards Bala along the A494. At Bala turn right towards Trawsfynydd on the A4212. Canolfan Tryweryn is signposted on the left just a mile past Frongoch village. Look out for the brown tourist information signs depicting a kayaker and National Whitewater Centre. Please park in one of the designated car parks and report to reception with your paperwork. Restrictions: Min age is 12. Max chest girth is 52”. Participants must be able to swim at least 25 metres before they can brave the rapids in the 14 foot inflatable raft.
