Description

Wind tunnels have been used for years to test the aerodynamics of cars. Comfortably able to support body weight, with speeds of up to 120 mph, the wind tunnel creates the experience of freefall without the need to plummet from a plane. Begin with a safety briefing from an instructor, before being issued with a specialist flight suit. Then brace the wind tunnel with the instructor, ascending into the air for two incredible 60 second sessions of body flying. Some lucky participants will even get to witness their instructor demonstrate some freefall acrobatics.

Availability: At least one weekday and one weekend date every month throughout the year. The centre is closed on Christmas Day but operates on bank holidays. Weather: The tunnel is indoors and isn’t affected by the weather. Duration: Expect to be on-site for around one and a half hours, including a 20 minute safety briefing, kit issue (15 minutes), two 60 second body flying sessions and a full debrief. Numbers On Day: Training may be shared in a group of up to 12. All flights are held on a one-to-one basis in the wind tunnel with a fully qualified instructor. Spectators: Facilities are excellent and make for a good family outing. Spectators can watch the action from the free viewing gallery. Dress Code: No jewellery or collared shirts. Please wear tight-fitting lace-up trainers (not boots). If suitable footwear isn’t worn, it is compulsory to hire trainers from the venue. Jumpsuits and other equipment are provided. Lockers £1. Guidelines: Airkix is situated next to the Chill Factore indoor ski slope, opposite the Trafford Centre and conveniently located off junction 10 of M60 motorway. After exiting the motorway, head towards The Trafford Centre and turn left at the brown tourist sign ‘Trafford Quays Leisure Village’ by the Premier Inn. At the roundabout turn left, signed ‘Ski Slope’. Follow the sign and you will see Airkix on the left, just past Chill Factore. Restrictions: Minimum age is four. Under 18’s must be accompanied by an adult. Maximum weight 18 stone. Anyone who’s reasonably fit, can fly. If you’re pregnant, have heart, back or neck problems or have ever dislocated a shoulder, you can’t fly. Other Info: It is vital to arrive no later than the allocated time on the booking letter. Actual flights occur up to one hour after the allocated booked time to allow for an essential safety briefing before stepping into the tunnel.
