Description

In the autumn of 1888 London’s East End was terrorised by a series of gruesome murders. The perpetrator, dubbed ‘Jack the Ripper’, was never caught and his identity remains a mystery. This walking tour follows in the footsteps of the infamous Ripper around the alleys, arches and dark passages of Whitechapel, where the crushers, coves, slummers and unfortunates of 19th century London plied their trade. A friendly, knowledgeable guide will help to explore the historical background of the murders, examine how perceptions have been shaped by the Ripper’s portrayal on film and TV, and remember the tragic lives of the women whose daily struggle to survive ended so cruelly.
