Take an exhilarating trip in a nippy, aerodynamic microlight and soar like a bird. Begin with a short briefing from a qualified instructor, before climbing into a lightweight microlight. The type of craft offered at this North Devon venue is called fixed wing, which is similar to a conventional light aircraft and has dual controls, ensuring full safety at altitude. Enjoy the surprising speed and versatility of the craft and once airborne, take over the controls with the instructor on hand at all times to offer tips and encouragement. This flight also counts towards a microlight Private Pilot’s Licence, should the experience bring out the flying bug.

Availability: February to October, including public holidays. Weekends can get very busy, so we recommend booking at least four weeks in advance. Weather: Microlighting is a weather dependent activity and it’s essential that you call the venue between 8am – 9am for a weather check. If the flight is cancelled because of the weather, it will be re-booked for an alternative date or time. Duration: The flight lasts about 40 minutes, including a 30 minute flight. Numbers On Day: The briefing might be shared. The flight will be held on a one-to-one basis with the instructor. Spectators: Spectators are welcome to watch take off and landings. Dress Code: Wear flat-soled shoes. Sunglasses are recommended all year round. Guidelines: From the A377 at Umberleigh follow the signs for Kingford Hill. At the top of the hill turn left onto the B3217 and turn left at the Radar Station. At the crossroads turn right. The closest rail station is Umberleigh. Restrictions: Maximum weight is 16 stone and minimum age is 14. Under 18’s must be accompanied by a parent or guardian who’ll be required to sign a disclaimer. Other Info: Flying time can count towards a microlight private pilot’s licence, for which 15 hours of dual control and 10 hours solo flying is required to qualify. Please be aware that this is quite a high adrenaline experience, not for the faint-hearted.
