Things couldn’t be more different than a plane when flying in a microlight. In fact a trip on one of these nippy, lightweight little flying machines is about as close as it gets to being a bird. Begin the session with a health and safety briefing from an experienced pilot, before boarding a dual-controlled ‘flex wing’ microlight, which is based on the frame of a hang glider. Once airborne, experience the incredible handling and zippy speed of this lightweight craft whilst enjoying breathtaking bird’s-eye views. During the flight, take control of the microlight, with an instructor on hand throughout to offer advice and encouragement. This particular flight can also count towards a microlight Private Pilot’s Licence.
Availability: Tuesday – Sunday afternoons (usually between 12 – 3pm) throughout the main flying season from May to mid-September. Week night flights can take off up to 7.30pm in summer. 2016 season is complete and the venue is unable to take bookings until April 2017. Weather: Weather dependency means you can be cancelled at very short notice so you MUST call for confirmation between 9 – 10am on the morning of the flight. Any cancellations are rebooked. Duration: Please allow up to an hour at the venue. As a guide, the flight can last for anywhere between 15 and 25 minutes, depending on thermals and wind. Numbers On Day: The briefing might be shared, but the flight is held on a one-to-one basis with a qualified pilot. Spectators: Spectators are welcome to watch you take off and land, dont let them forget to bring a camera or pair of binoculars. They can relax in the cafe and viewing area on the airfield. Sorry, dogs are not permitted at airfields. Dress Code: These microlights have open cockpits, so wrap up warm. We recommend long trousers, closed in shoes, socks and long sleeve jumpers. Bring gloves in winter and sunblock and a hat in summer. Sunglasses are recommended all year round. Guidelines: Restrictions: Maximum weight is 16 and a half stone and minimum age is 16. Under 18s must be accompanied by a parent or guardian who’ll be required to sign a disclaimer. Other Info: Flying time can count towards a microlight Private Pilot’s Licence, for which 15 hours of dual control and 10 hours solo flying is needed to qualify. No bookings are being taken for 2017 season until April.
