Description

Begin this epic voyage at Fort William and follow the historic pony track up onto the plateau, reach the old summit observatory, up on the edge of the colossal North face. Prepare to deal with a variety of conditions – on a clear day, half of Scotland will be visible from the summit, however, it can snow on Ben Nevis for 365 days of the year so there may be little or no visibility. An experienced guide will trek at a steady pace but more experienced walkers can scramble along the narrow ridge of Carn Mor Dearg onto the summit. Receive a debrief and hot chocolate back at the National Ice Climbing centre in Kinlochleven, before concluding with a well-earned steam and sauna.

Availability: Available all year round. Please allow at least six weeks advance notice for weekend bookings. Weather: Ben Nevis is particularly exposed to poor weather and avalanche risk so, on certain days, it may be neccessary to switch to another summit. Duration: A mountain day can last for up to ten hours, but seven to eight is more typical. The Ice Factor can arrange a shorter, easier day on request. Numbers On Day: This is an exclusive experience, for just the two of you and a guide. Spectators: The experience is for paying participants only and therefore spectators are not permitted. Dress Code: Dress warmly and bring a change of clothes for when you’ve completed your climb. Wear warm waterproofs if you have them. Lots of thin layers are much more effective than one large bulky layer. All climbing equipment will be provided. Guidelines: Kinlochleven is in the western highlands of Scotland near Ben Nevis and Glencoe, around two hours’ drive north of Glasgow. From the A82 take the B863. Once you enter Kinlochleven the venue is well signposted. Restrictions: Minimum age is 16. Participants should have good endurance and be able to keep moving all day on uneven ground.
