Try the crazy thrill of Piaggio Ape racing in Hertfordshire, exclusive to Red Letter Days and seen in Top Gear magazine. The three wheeled vehicles have been Italian style icons since 1949 and for this experience, they’ve been upgraded to racing spec with added stabilisers. After an introduction on how to drive the Ape, split into teams of two and have 20 minutes of practice laps to decide qualifying positions. Then it’s time to race! With a proper Le Mans start, race across the track, jump in the right Ape, get the engine started and go! During the 40 minute race, decide a driving strategy with pit stops to switch drivers. Race on a 1 kilometre circuit and the top three teams are rewarded with a trophy!
