Escape to a wildlife treasure trove in the Knepp Wildland Project and stay in a spacious shepherd’s hut on the edge of an ancient woodland. During your break, join the resident ecologist with a small group to head out for a morning or night time safari, and spot the varied wildlife of the local area. First, settle into your cosy hut built using recycled flooring from Knepp Castle, complete with a double bed, feather bedding, a wood burning stove (kettle and coffee maker included) for two nights. One morning or evening, join Penny Green and a small group for a wildlife safari which are likely to include sightings of free-roaming cattle, ponies, deer, pigs. Birds such as red kites, buzzards and ravens are also abundant and a cake stop is included.

Availability: Midweek between April and October. Dawn safaris take place between April and July, dusk safaris from May to September. Weather: Safaris go ahead in all conditions, unless extreme weather deems it unsafe. Duration: Check in is at 3pm, check out 11am. The safari takes two to three hours. Numbers On Day: Share the safari with a maximum of 11 others in an open-aired vehicle. Spectators: Dress Code: This is an outdoors experience. Bring warm clothes (layers are recommended), wellingtons or walking boots and waterproofs in case of bad weather. Bedding is provided. Guidelines: Restrictions: Minimum age 12 and at least one guest must be an adult (18 or over). Other Info: Knepp Wildland Safaris observe nature peacefully. Some species encountered can be shy or frightened by loud noises or sudden movements so quiet discretion is required at all times.
