Description
Set off for an adrenaline-fuelled white water rafting experience for two in England aboard an inflatable six person raft. Start by being kitted out with all the equipment before a full safety briefing and instruction in white water rafting. Then an instructor will take you both on a succession of jaw-dropping rides where you and the rest of your crew will steer the raft through a series of turbulent white water rafting rapids on the man-made 300m course. Fed by electric pumps so water levels are consistently high throughout the year and the course is also floodlit for evening sessions. As a guide this course is graded 2 – 3 on the UK s white water grading system which starts at one (relaxed) and goes up to six (too rough to offer commercially).
Availability: Selected dates from March to October. Dates are more scarce outside summer months. Weekend dates fill quickly – book six to eight weeks in advance. Weather: For safety, certain conditions (including water not being released by the environmental agency) may lead to postponement. For morning bookings call the day before, for afternoon/evening bookings call before setting out to check. Duration: Sessions last around two hours from initial introduction to debrief, including at least five runs down the course. Please arrive a few minutes early to register and allow for time afterwards to shower and change. Sorry, latecomers can’t be accommodated. Numbers On Day: This experience is for two people. The raft holds up to six people plus a qualified instructor. Spectators: Spectators are welcome to watch from the bank. A camera will come in handy. Spectators’ safety remains their own responsibility at all times. There are usually covered facilities available, but they might not see all of the action from there. Dress Code: Bring swimwear, a towel and a pair of old trainers. Clothes will get wet. Wetsuits, buoyancy aids and helmets are provided. If you wear glasses, either secure them firmly or go without. Contact lenses are OK. Guidelines: Exit junction 15 off M1 onto A45 (East) towards Northampton/Wellingborough. Head for town centre/A428 and at the large roundabout turn right under the flyover towards Bedford. The slalom and rafting course is on the right within 300 yards and the red bricked centre is set back on the right. Go past the Marriott hotel, turn right at the mini roundabout into Rushmills then immediate right along the slip road following the fenced road to the centre. Restrictions: Minimum age 12. Maximum weight 16 stone. No experience is necessary but you must be able to swim, be confident in the water and fit enough to climb back into the raft if you fall out. For safety reasons the venue reserves the right to test your fitness. Other Info: Expect to get wet, but there are hot shower facilities at the venue. Rafters might be expected to jump from the raft into still practice waters as part of the initial training session.
